A Toronto church and school combo building listed for $7 million

Have you ever wanted to own a church? What about a church and a school?

While the answer that question is likely no, Toronto’s West Ellesmere United Church is currently listed for the bargain price of just $7 million.

The church, located at 37 Marchington Circle, was built back in 1958 and designed by architectural firm Craig and Zeidler, which also constructed the Eaton Centre and Ontario Place. The church later received an addition in 1961 that includes its Christian Education Centre.

The design is described as mid-century expressionist, and it features a “parabolic glulam arches with a north-facing clerestory at the intersection of the two roof planes,” according to the Architectural Conservator Ontario (ACO).

Notable features include a gymnasium, a daycare area, meeting rooms, offices and a school.

Someone will likely purchase the location and turn it into something entirely different. Unfortunately for investors, it also doesn’t seem like the layout of its various buildings are suited for a transformation into condos.

There’s also a possibility someone could purchase the area for the land to build dozens of townhomes.
