As the pandemic changes the way people work, it appears that it’s also causing Canadians to move around the country.
A new report from Stats Canada says that 123,000 Canadians moved provinces in the second quarter of 2021, more than double the previous quarter. The report says this is the most interprovincial moves seen since 1991.
However, this is still below a record quarter in the 1970s when 150,000 people moved provinces.
Notably, most people (12,000) moved out of Ontario, which makes sense since the cost of housing has been exploding in the province lately. However, this theory doesn’t hold up as much since the report also mentions that the majority of people are moving to B.C. (15,000). Another province with pricey real estate.
