Half the units in a new development outside Toronto will be ‘affordable’

A new set of mixed-income towers that are proposed to go up in Scarborough, Ontario are slated to make half of its units affordable.

If it gets approved CreateTO plans to build two towers at 158 Borough Drive specifically, which is currently a parking lot. It’s nicely situated in downtown Scarbrough near the city’s Civic Centre, a few small parks and a library.

One tower is going to be 27 stories and the taller option will be 42. Both will be built on top of a shared platform. There’s no shopping planned for this area since the towers are so close to a mall, but the developers are looking to build a small daycare.

Inside there are going to be 645 units — including 363 one-bedrooms, 216 two-bedrooms, and 66 three-bedrooms. Underground there’s going to be parking for 266 cars and 485 bikes.
