A new study from the University of British Columbia living within 100 meters of a laneway home could knock as much as 2.8 percent off the value of your home.
If you live right beside one of these smaller homes, you could lose as much as 3.8 percent. However, the weird part about this statistic is that it only really applies in affluent neighbourhoods. Regular middle-class people have no problem with laneway homes, surprisingly.
This means that laneway homes can do well in the middle class and lower class areas or cities. However, Since the housing market is so hot right now, I’m sure any home sold for a reasonable price is worth it. Rich neighbours be dammed.
The report also mentions that “There are lots in great laneway neighbourhoods like Trinity Bellwoods, the Annex, Leslieville, and Roncesvalles, where laneway suites are a possibility are worth more today than before the laneway guidelines.”
