The downtown Vancouver MacBlo office building has been renamed in honour of the architect Arther Erikson.
The renaming coincides with a light show honouring the building designer’s work that’s being projected on the side of the building until September 29, 2021, from 8:30 to 10pm.
Erikson is a renowned architect who was born in Vancouver and did some of his greatest work in the area. This includes Simon Fraser University, the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver and, of course, the MacMillan Bloedel (MacBlo) building that’s now called Arthur Erickson Place.
The building is a 27 storey concrete tower with recessed windows and a strong modernist identity. It was even the tallest building on the Vancouver skyline when it was erected in 1968 and won numerous awards.
